Panmurefield

Perched above the Dighty Burn, this spacious family home is designed with Passive-House principles yet on a tight budget. It's closed public elevation to the North contrasts with it's bright, open and glazed South façade.

Siting and Contextual Response

This house perfectly illustrates an architectural response to orientation and context without any preconceived ideas about what a house ‘should’ look like; the house is designed to open up to the views and sunshine to the south and west and leaves a fairly mysterious looking, closed elevation to the north.

This house perfectly illustrates an architectural response to orientation and context without any preconceived ideas about what a house ‘should’ look like; the house is designed to open up to the views and sunshine to the south and west and leaves a fairly mysterious looking, closed elevation to the north.

The plan is arranged so that the principal living spaces on the ground floor and bedrooms are open to the views and sunshine on the south side, with direct access to a terrace and garden and service spaces and bathrooms are to the north along with a top lit ‘storador’, corridor with storage (and planned ventilation routes) providing access to the bedrooms on the first floor.
